Amy, 15, pulls no punches as new world champ! October 2008

Amy Pirnie (15) from Dalmarnock fulfilled her dream of not just competing in the World Mauy Thai boxing championships in South Korea in last month, thanks in part to Thenew Trust, but …she also won a gold medal!

Amy qualified to compete after landing the British Championship in the 45 kilo class. Friends and neighbours in the community rallied round to raise the £2,000 necessary for travel, accommodation and training costs. Thenew Trust stepped in with a grant of £200 to ensure Amy could make the trip.

Whilst visiting Bridgeton Community Learning Campus our Chief Executive, Charlie Turner bumped into Amy’s mum. She was so proud and emotional, as she has just received the great news via a text message from Amy, who was still in South Korea at the time.

This is a great achievement for Amy, who had to leave her mum and dad behind this time to compete! “People have been great. Everybody has really supported me, “says Amy.

“Kickboxing has been recognised as an Olympic sport - but my goal just now is to come back from Korea with a gold medal." Amy’s now achieved this and we wonder what her next goal is!

2008 AGM no 2

Annual General Meeting - September 2008

This year year, our Annual General Meeting, (AGM), was held on the evening of Tuesday 16th September 2008 at Bridgeton Community Learning Campus, (BCLC). In addition to the usual business, there were prize draws sponsored by our repairs contractor, Carillion Property Services, and a children's entertainer. Free pantomine tickets were also available to members.

A great turnout of 68 members participated, and for the first time in a long time there was an election for participation to our Management Committee.
